Remove / Add Site Widgets
Select Appearance – Widgets to use block controls or even HTML to create simple header and footer. Remove all sidebar controls. Maybe add the one legacy widget called “ActApp Recent Posts” .. have not created a block for that yet. The header, footer and sidebar can be edited like page content. Generally adding an image on the top and some copywrite and links on the bottom. Can also include the HTML control to add custom stuff as a developer in these locations.
Create home page and update site settings to use it
Create a new page called Home and publish it.
Select Appearance – Customize – Home Page Settings from the sidebar, use a static page and select Home.
Publish the changes.
Create another page and create a two page menu
Create a new page called “Howdy” with any content and publish it.
Select Appearance – Customize – Menus from the sidebar. Create a new menu and add the Home and Howdy pages, set to use the primary location.
Publish the changes.
At this point you should have a simple site setup.
